Sabi Sand

Sabi Sand

The Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve is a private game reserve located on the Western border of the Kruger National Park. It is 65,000 hectares in size and has some of the best game viewing in Africa. The Sabi Sand shares a 50km unfenced border with the Kruger and is part of what is known as the Greater Kruger National Park. Animals can roam freely between the Sabi Sand and Kruger.

There are a number of private game lodges within the Sabi Sand – most of which offer unrivalled safari experiences. Unlike the Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand is not open to the general public so your experience is a lot more exclusive, allowing you to really appreciate the tranquility of the African bush. Each private reserve has exclusive traversing rights over their own area. What’s more, your safari here will not be bound by the strict rules of the South African National Parks Board, so rangers can drive off-road, taking you closer to the action. They can also drive at night and lead you on walking safaris.

The wildlife here is amazing and includes over 45 fish species, 30 amphibian species, 110 reptile species, 500 bird species and 145 mammal species! It is also home to 330 plant species and the Big 5 and is the best place to spot the elusive leopard.

The Sabi Sand has a strong commitment to conservation and is involved in a number of projects that uplift the local communities. It's truly one of the best safari destinations in the world.

We’ve featured a selection of the most popular southern and eastern African destinations in our Tours, but we can help you plan a holiday to any destination, with an itinerary tailored to suit your budget, interests and needs.

Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge received a Best Value Award for Kruger National Park Accommodation.
