Kalahari Desert

Kalahari Desert

The Kalahari Desert extends for 900,000 square kilometres and covers much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa. Its name is derived from the Tswana work “Kgala”, meaning the great thirst, or “Kgalagadi”, meaning the waterless place.

The Kalahari always promises things you can never see elsewhere. And each month reveals sights and sounds different to the last. Visiting the Kalahari on a safari will allow you to see very different wildlife to that which you can expect to see at Chitwa Chitwa. The Kalahari is a completely different ecosystem and habitat, with unique inhabitants, such as the desert-adapted black rhino, black-maned lions, meerkats, cheetah, roan, sable and tsessebe. Also keep your eyes peeled for the elusive aardvark, aardwolf, caracal, pangolin and porcupine.

The Kalahari is a very special place indeed and is ideal for experienced safari goers looking for a slightly different experience.

We’ve featured a selection of the most popular southern and eastern African destinations in our Tours, but we can help you plan a holiday to any destination, with an itinerary tailored to suit your budget, interests and needs.

Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge received a Best Value Award for Kruger National Park Accommodation.
